I carried the 5906 while i was a Smith County deputy...This is high quality 9mm...A little weak...ok a lot weak for my taste but a good gun...
USMC Snakedriver invited me over for a range session today. His son Ryan was there too, and we had an excellent time trying out many of my handguns and a few of theirs too.
Let's see, we got to shoot Ryan's XD-45. It's an impressive shooter, and it groups beautifully too. The XD will convince just about anybody that a Polymer pistol can be a very high quality handgun and can be trusted to work when expected too. I have the same pistol in my collection and we both agree that these XD's will feed just about any ammo you can fill the magazine with.
We all took turns sharing the handguns, and telling each other a little about them too.
Snakedriver had his Walther P99. That was one of the best pistols out of everything we had there.
We all took turns running thru a few evolutions with the Brand new 4006 and the M&P 40 as well. It's the first time I've ever shot any 40 cal pistols. They were both much more controlable than I thought they woud be. The M&P was silk smooth, right out of the box. It consistantly produced 2" groups with an occasional flyer (obviously user error).
The 4006 has so much weight to it I found it easy to shoot but I was having difficulty getting the rear sight adjusted in completely.
Snakedriver helped me with my 1911. I haven't shot it since having quite a bit of custom work done to it. We had a few failures to go into battery. He worked on it a little, and it seemed to work itself out after a few mags were run thru it.
I really need to work on getting it sighted in too.
And the last pistol we all ran some evolutions with was the 5906.
What an amazing pistol. I can totally understand why it has been a favorite among Law enforcement personnel.
There is nearly no recoil, or muzzle flip. It's by far the easiest pistol to shoot I've ever handled.
S&W really did it right when they designed that pistol. Everybody was shoting very tight groups and consistant for all of us shooting it.
If you're ever invited to spend some time with him, don't pass up on the opportunity. He's a true gentleman. and one heck of a great guy to spend a day at the range with.
Now the funny part of the day. I had 3 sets of Pachmyer grips that I took with me for his revolver that was chewing up his thumb. None of them fit his revolver. One was really close, but his frame was a little thicker than the grips could wrap around.
I made sure he had all of them when I left. It's in appreciation of the day at the range. I'm sure he'll be able to find a handgun or too that they'll fit. If not, he said he'll keep his ears open to see if anybody else might be able to use them.
Sharing this sport with each other is what this is really all about.

When the time comes that I don't want a new gun, call the undertaker!

Gregory,
Thanks for bringing along a pile of guns this afternoon! We test drove Colt, Smith, Springfield and Walther in three different calibers over a couple of hours. It was a great day!
We'll make sure the Pachmyers find a good home!
Fantastic that you guys were able to get together.![]()

Glad to hear you guys had a great day, every time I get together with friends at the range it's just plain fun! Also, I have to agree with your comments on the XD45, I've had one for a while now, run thousands of rounds through it with no issues ( I wish I could say the same about my wife's Glock).
Glad you guy's had a great time. My last range Buddy was the Wife............OH MAN............"That Hurts" "THAT"S LOUD....."How do you put this thing in"????....Stopped shooting and showed her how that thing goes in...........
