    History of America's Police Sidearms

"No people in the world ever did achieve their freedom by goody-goody talk and moral suasion: it being immutable law that all revolutions that will succeed must being in blood, whatever may answer afterward."

Thanks for the history lesson. Dad used to tell me about the ribbing he would get from the young officers as they started to buy the semi-autos and he stuck with his Model 15 no-dash. They standard dialog was they would tease him about how many rounds they had, and he would reply 'what makes you think you that if you can't hit something with the first 6, you can hit it at all'. Or something like that.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Good write-up David. My dad started as a cop in 1955, you had to provide your own weapon and he originally borrowed his father-in-laws' MP K-frame. Eventually he bought his pre-model 15 K-38 from the long retired (pick any and you'd be right), Town Constable, Marshal, County Deputy Sheriff, a gent who the town hired back for a few days a week to allow for the full-time officers to have a day off. I asked my dad recently if he knew of any lawman in the area that carried anything other than a revolver and the answer was no. That was early on though, by the 70's I know some were (at least on the drug task force) because I saw them myself when able to tag along with my dad on the job.
