    Lowest powered 38 speacial ammo

Hi everyone, Im sure this has been asked before. But Ive got a new 686, And was wondering, whats the least powered 38 special ammo out there, by the big manufacturers, that would be great for plinking with low recoil, from a 2 1/2 barrel 686 ? And is it true, the lighter the bullet, the less the recoil ? Thanks everyone.

Any 130 G. FMJ will feel like a .22, well almost like a .22 coming out of a 686. You can shoot them all day long and not feel it at all. Federal, Winchester and a bunch of others make them.

As far as felt recoil, there are a lot of factors, bullet weight, powder charge, barrel length and the person shooting it.

I have never shot any of those Dom, are they even less recoil than a midrange wad cutter?

I would think target wadcutters would be the lightest recoiling.

Mick, they are pretty tame, I have only shot 148 g. WC to compare and I don't feel much of a difference, again IMO it is all subject to the shooter, load and gun.

The 148 grain wadcutters are probably the lowest recoiling .38 special that you will find. I shoot my 4 " 686 with them in pistol matches and the recoil is barely noticeable. Wadcutter ammo has gotten expensive if you buy them by the box. I bought a case (1,000 rounds) for $138. a couple of months ago from Zero ammo company. To get that price I had to ship them 1,000 pieces of used .38 brass. It's good ammo, I've been shooting it for years without any problems.
Id post a link to their web-site but my home computer is in the shop and this one from work won't allow me to acess the site. Goggle is your friend.

Like everyone said so far, wadcutters.

I do recall buying some 125gr SWCs from Ultramax that were very low recoil as well.
