    Shortage of 22 L-R

What are you gentleman doing for the 22 LR shortage?

I am scared "more nervous then anything" on the 22 shortage I am seeing. I like to go to the range or the back yard and practice a little before I start hunting red squirrels.

With the 22 LR ammo shortage scare going on, I think I will by pass the target ptractice save the ammo for hunting. I know I am good shot with the trifle. and I will not make the animal suffer when I hunt my first one.

    You're thoughts?

U.S. ammo makers produce literally billions of .22 rimfire rounds a year; that's "billions" with a "B"; and will continue to do so. Why? Because it is the most popular cartridge extant.

Once the horders reach their shelf's capacity the volume of ammo on store shelves will return to normal.

I'm working on a plan to help relieve the some of that shortage for a few members here.
Stay tuned for my temporary solution.

After 3 stops at LGSs I snagged a brick yesterday. Seems the survivalists got caught up in the panic?

Agree with moondawg.. I looked at ammo on gunbroker and there was 12 pages of 22LR for auction..

Mostly hoarding going on.. I don't shoot much of it, just in my k22, but as long as I had a safety stock (500 rounds for me) I would continue to shoot it and purchase it as I can..

I haven't bought a box of 22 ammo for almost ten years. Guess I just don't shoot it much (don't shoot much of anything anymore it seems). Been packing around the same .50cal ammo full of various boxes since I was a teenager.

I'm sure it'll get back to somewhat normal once the panicking hoarders subside.

Let's just hope it doesn't get to 17HMR prices!

I heard through the rumor mill Federal got the contract for the military & fed gov't & is busy supplying them. They were a very large supplier of .22 LR's so that may be part of the current shortage. Winchester, who used to have the gov't contract, will likely be taking up the slack in the civilian market so things should get back to normal soon. Since ammo kept cool & dry has a shelf life just short of forever, it wouldn't hurt if everyone kept a few boxes of their favorite ammo on hand... the panic will likely to happen again & a gun w/out ammo is just an expensive rock.

I've seen some trickle into the local Walmarts here in the PNW. Just remember the last run, folks got squirrely buying then in about a month or so the shelves started filling back up.

I've kept my supply of ammo up ever since 2008, when Obama was Coronated King.....the first time!!!!! As I shoot it.....I simply buy more to replace it. I have cut back on my shooting....even with .22's! Bob
