    Wpa .223

Went to the range today and fired my MP15 Sport for the first time. It's chambered for .556 NATO, but I used WPA .223Rem. 55 grain FMJ.
I put 200 rounds thru it with no problems at all. After adjusting the sights, which took very little, I was consistently putting 5 rounds in a 3 inch group at 50 yards. The gun was quite dirty after firing. Don't know if this was due to the ammo or if it was normal. I'll get some other brass ammo and see how clean that fires. The WPA is steel casing, but it works just fine and you can't beat the price. Anyone have some insights on other brands of ammo?

Federal is my favorite. Good, clean, dependable ammo @ a reasonable price.

Federal was going to be my next choice. I'd like to try some Remington also.

    Ron,

While I (very) occasionally shoot "bulk pack" .223 I keep a case of Winchester Q3131, 5.62 NATO. It is the Israeli made Win white-box and is clean, and very consistent. Using this ammo, I have not touched the irons or EOTech for adjustment in, probably, 7 years.
Find what your gun likes and buy it in as much "bulk" as you can stand. The "per round" price is better and you limit variables, for which, you need to adjust.

    Cool

Lots of good ammo choices have been mentioned.

My AR has a chrome lined chamber, bolt and bore but I do not shoot steel case ammo because of the hardness of the steel againsts the bore surface.

Lots of folks shoot steel case ammo because of price but my feelings are softer brass cases have less chance of causing damage in the chamber of my weapons.

I also use brass cleaning rods and not steel.

I have been told by many that I am anal.

    Regards,

ARs and AKs should be able to shoot any kind of ammo. I used to worry about functioning in those type rifles (I have several of each) but quit worrying about the ones I shoot the most.
Any kind of AK round, steel or brass, will function well in my AKs.
After shooting a 1000 rounds or so of Wolf 62 Gr 5.56 out of a Colt AR, I don't worry about it anymore. I clean my rifles well when I'm finished shooting, oil them up, then just pick them up to go shoot when I'm ready to go again.
Barrels on ARs are easy to change if I wear one out. So are bolts.
AKs, who cares? The more they are worn, the better they function.
