    Colt 1911a1

    1911a1

This 1911a1 is my favorite 1911a1. I have several safe queens this one is well used, not abused and all original. The grips in these pic's are replacements, I use for shooting. I keep the original grips in a safe place. I took this one out to the range this morning. I had a good time running 300 rnds through her. So far she has never let me down or missed a beat. I enjoy shooting these older Colt's. This 1911a1 dates to 1943.

    VERY NICE ! ! !
I'm glad to hear it's not relegated to standing guard duty inside your safe.
Keep shooting it, from what I've been told it gets better all the time.

    It's all in the details.

Sometimes it takes a little patience and attention to detail. Over the weekend my son and I were going through some of my handguns. I handed him this Colt and a set of shooting grips. I told him take the originals off and put these on. He did that but did not pay attention to the orientation of the screw slots. If you get the correct screw in the right holes they will all align up as they should. All the screws are torqued down the same and now the are they way I like to see them.

Not a big deal this morning I had to remove the screws and figure out which screw went in which hole. Now they are the way they should be. Notice the screw slots are now running from the 1 O'clock to the seven O'clock position. Easy to do this. It only took me about ten minutes to figure it out. One day I'll train that kid. He always tells me Dad this stuff does not matter. My reply is do it right. Or do the best you can do. He knows how to do this stuff. He just thinks it's not worth it. To each his own. I tell him if you want to do that on your stuff that's fine with me. One day my training may sink in to his way of thinking.

If you look at the two other pic's you can see the difference.

For me life is too short for safe queens. I gave most of my collection of those to my son. I shoot all the guns I own.

    I'm also a fan of 1911's

I agree they are ageless. As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Those "mature ladies" can still show one a good time.

Thanks for not making it a safe queen and for sharing!

    Jim ,

One of my favorite sayings is : " Good enough is not enough " .

My oldest wrestled varsity all 4 yrs in HS . His freshman year he was 13 and 14 .
I "encouraged" him to do preseason and post season wrestling . He got better .
He didn't really buy into it until before his junior yr . He went out to Iowa State to train there for a month that summer .
His senior yr he finished 3rd at states . I still think he could have been the state champ .
    If he had ........................................

I wrestled in HS . He was a hell of a lot better than I ever was .

This is the only photo I have with my 1911 from 1917 if memory serves me right. I bought the frame from a police officer in Florida. He did the stippling and even made an extended grip safety by welding onto the old one...just down right awful, but it works. Yes this was done before Wilson or Brown sold parts! This 1911 has never missed a beat!
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
